Day 62

Clean-up day today.

I am in laundry mode since Liam is coming home this week and I want to wash his sheets and blankets. Plus we had three loads from our Goodwill ventures yesterday.

I am almost caught up now.

Sean did his work:

  • ( ) Mathematics
  • ( ) Latin
  • ( ) Story of the Church
  • ( ) Greek
  • ( ) Henle — up to exercise 6 now
  • ( ) Reading
  • ( ) Weekly Jobs
  • ( ) Morning Jobs

Kieron is still working on his, which is:

  • ( ) Mathematics
  • ( ) Latin
  • ( ) Bible History
  • ( ) Greek
  • ( ) Simply Grammar
  • ( ) Reading
  • ( ) Weekly Jobs
  • ( ) Morning Jobs

Aidan is presently doing his therapy — picking up marbles with his toes. He had an extended meltdown yesterday. I am not sure why this is — maybe because Kevin is gone? With all his issues it is hard to tell where these things come from or if it is just a normal childhood phase. Anyway, he is a sensory seeker and I realized through desperation that Kevin (who is extremely good at bringing Aidan out of a meltdown) often interacts with Aidan by exaggerated warmth and humor and distraction and hugging. Whereas my natural tendency when a child is emotional is to back off and get very slow and thoughtful. It might work with some kids but with Aidan it seems to make him introspect and get into loops where he keeps brooding about whatever set him off in the first place. So realizing this, I hugged Aidan and swung him around in my arms and tried to give out “let’s move on and be happy” type energy. And it worked! So there’s my little strategy idea for today. I will try it again sometime to see if it was a fluke, but I think I’m on the right track since it works so consistently when Kevin does it.

Anyway, I haven’t been as careful about balancing his sensory diet recently because he has seemed so stable, but I think now it’s time to do some thinking about this again. (And when I was googling I found this blog which has lots of RDI and therapy ideas for a child about Aidan’s age — I’ll have to do some looking there)

Another thing I have to do is plan some structured therapy sessions for him for this summer when he won’t be getting professional therapy as regularly. This would be for speech, physical and occupational.
This afternoon the two little boys have a T ball game.

Clare has been sewing her dress for her cousin’s wedding.
